Everybody Could Use a Union (VIDEO)

Everyone could use a voice on the job, even white-collar professionals like lawyers.

Attorneys at the New Jersey Attorney General's office were tired of scant benefits, stagnant pay and, most importantly, not having any power to change things in their workplace.

Says IBEW International Representative Wyatt Earp:

They wanted respect in the workplace, they wanted to be treated fairly and the promises that were made to them needed to be kept.

So, like an increasing number of professionals, they decided to get organized, joining the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Since the campaign started, the attorneys have become more secure on the job, and are negotiating for higher pay and more of a say in workplace rules.

They’re working toward the day when their employer can no longer change wages, benefits and working conditions at will.

Says New Jersey Deputy Attorney General Andrew Reese:

The fact that we’re organized means the state has to bargain with us if they want to change any of the employment terms and conditions so having that protection really means a lot to us.
